Jerry Martin & the Sounds

In the 50s, Iowa teenager Layton Zbornik changed his name to Jerry Martin and he wrote and recorded Iowa’s very first Rock and Roll record “Janet,” which is now one of the most sought after collectable record in the world. He would write and record several more before leaving that part of the business in 1960 to get married the next year.

He changed directions several times during his life, had a great amount of success as a Disk-Jockey, record producer, PR man, then as a college student and a high school teacher.

In 1998 he was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and recognized as Iowa’s Original Rocker. That night he did his very first rock show in 40 years. Soon the demand was so great that he formed a band and became one of the state’s hottest tickets. He also ended up releasing two CDs, “Life IN 4/4 Time,” and “On the Road With Ike.”

If you want to experience REAL 50s and 60s Rock & Roll, then you need to see Jerry Martin & the Sounds in action. They’re not a lounge act, or a phony make believe group, they come out and play the music the way it was meant to be played, and they give you a show along the way. In a TV special on Zbornik, Iowa Public Television simply said, “He was Born to Rock!” They weren’t joking. For more information call, or e-mail today!
